How it works

  1. Pair your smart trainer directly to BikeControl over Bluetooth (FTMS or FE-C).
  2. BikeControl re-publishes the trainer to your trainer app — over Bluetooth or WiFi — with virtual shifting baked in.
  3. Shift with any supported controller — BikeControl applies the gear's resistance; the app just sees a normal trainer.

What is virtual shifting?

Virtual shifting changes gears electronically through the smart trainer instead of moving the chain across a physical cassette. The trainer adjusts resistance to simulate each gear, so single-speed setups (like a Zwift Cog) shift silently at the press of a button.

Which trainer apps support it?

All of them. BikeControl applies the gear change at the trainer level and only sends the resulting resistance to the app, so virtual shifting works in Zwift, MyWhoosh, Rouvy, TrainingPeaks Virtual, Biketerra, and any other trainer app — even apps without native virtual shifting.

Is virtual shifting free in BikeControl?

Virtual shifting is included for up to 20 minutes per day in the free/base version. BikeControl Pro (around 2.50 EUR/USD per month) removes the time limit.
